“It was the best thing I’ve ever seen,” “I really felt like I was in Africa,” “I really liked getting to learn about a different culture,” “I had a wonderful time!” These students are all referring to the experiences they have received thanks to our partnership with The Mann Center for the Performing Arts – a partnership which recently brought over 1,000 students to The Mann for “IMS Days at the Mann”.
This great partnership started from a contact on the St. Malachy’s board and has continued to grow. For the second year in a row, The Mann has designed “IMS Days at the Mann” just for us! Last year, 800 of our youngest students got to see the “Give and Take Circus” and this year, over 1000 students enjoyed the “African Drum and Dance” performance. And The Mann’s generosity to IMS doesn’t stop there…
This year, they brought us three in-school assemblies, Klezmer Meets Jazz and hosted 450 IMS Middle School students at a special performance of West Side Story. The Mann invites our students to their Young People’s concerts during the summer days and invites all the IMS families (at no cost) to special evening concerts throughout the summer.
We are so grateful for this amazing opportunity for our students and families! Last year a parent said, “I’ve lived in West Philadelphia all my life and have never been here (The Mann).” If you haven’t had the opportunity to take in a show at The Mann yet, what are you waiting for?
Located in West Fairmont Park, The Mann Center for the Performing Arts is one the country’s largest non-profit outdoor music centers that presents world-class artists in its beautiful open-air summer setting. Learn more on their website.
