IMS Welcomes Students Back to School!

By Rick Auletta

This Tuesday, we welcomed back over 5,000 students at our 15 Independence Mission Schools! Several members of the IMS central staff, including myself, had the unique pleasure of visiting some of our schools to be a part of “opening day.” The students were bright with enthusiasm for the start of a new school year as they were greeted by their teachers and welcomed back to the IMS family.

I visited St. Helena on Tuesday, where our new principal, Nick Huck, escorted me and Father Peter Welsh, Parochial Vicar, to every class in order for Father to bless each classroom, student and teacher – I was able to say hello to all the teachers and meet the kids.

As we kick off another school year, it’s a great opportunity to recommit ourselves to our mission: to transform young lives and to eliminate the inequalities that exist between peoples by providing a quality catholic education to students who desire to be empowered by academic and spiritual development. I know that with the support of their families, the dedication of our faculty and the generosity of our supporters, all of our students will accomplish great things this 2017/2018 school year!

In closing, please join me, along with all of our staff and students, as we continue to pray in our classrooms for all the families who have been impacted by the devastation of Hurricane Harvey and Irma.

With best wishes and prayers for a great school year,

Rick Auletta
President, Independence Mission Schools
