Team Success Measured by More Than Trophy

By IMS Staff

Hearty congratulations to the boy’s basketball team from St. Frances Cabrini Catholic School for bringing home the CYO State Championship March 19th. The boys traveled seven hours to Greenburg, PA to compete against teams from across the state in a nail-biting weekend of back-to-back winning games. This championship is the second consecutive championship for an IMS team and certainly won’t be the last!

SFC went on to the State Championship after besting St. Martin de Porres Catholic School (SMDP) in the Archdiocesan tournament.  They then competed against teams from across the state to bring home the championship trophy.

“Winning the State Championship is just the icing on the cake of what they accomplished this year as a team.”

— Bill Cascarina, SFC Principal

While most of the team has played together since Fifth Grade, coaches Greg Alexander and Hayes Clark worked hard to welcome three new players to the team, who transferred to the school this year. Part of the team’s success can be attributed to the tight bond between the coaches and players, according to SFC Principal William Cascarina.

But for Cascarina, the real success is the strength of character the boys developed as a team and how they put what they learned into action.

“As the principal, I’m most proud of how they conducted themselves on the court and how they conduct themselves as young men. They represent the organization, the school, coaching staff and themselves with class, dignity and honor,” Cascarina explains. “Winning the State Championship is just the icing on the cake of what they accomplished this year as a team.”
